The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) participated with 60 students from Qatar International School to plant 60 trees at Legtaifiya Street Development Project as a continuation of “Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees” Campaign launched recently by the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar.
During the event, some information about the project was presented as well as the importance ofpreservation the environment, planting trees and increasing green areas. 
On this occasion, Ms. Emma Symonds, Assistant Head of Primary School at Qatar Int’l Schoolthanked #Ashghal for giving the students the opportunity to participate in planting trees in Qatar, and highlighted the positive impact on the formation of the child's personality and awareness regarding the preservation of the environment.
The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar carries out this campaign with the aim of raising awareness among school students about the importance of planting trees and instilling environmental values in them, and emphasizing that protecting and preserving the environment is the duty of everyone in the community, thus encouraging students to participate in achieving the goals of the country and carry out voluntary work to preserve the environment in Qatar. As part of the campaign, weekly events will be carried out with the participation of many students from different levelsof educationto plant trees throughout Qatar over eight months. The campaign will continue until the end of 2021.
It is worth mentioning that LegtaifiyaStreet Development Project that is implemented by Ashghal,includes planting 642 trees, 34,340 m2of green areas, about 60 seats, and 10 km of pedestrian &Cyclepaths.
Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar
The committee works in coordination with several ministries and other entities of the State such as Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar Railway Company, Private Engineering Bureau among others. This Committee is responsible for five major tasks including construction of central public parks, provision of dedicated lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, development of the Doha Corniche, development of Central Doha, and increasing afforestation and greenery areas.
The Committee’s work will contribute to enhance sustainability through minimizing environmental pollution, reducing emission of CO2 through minimized consumption and conservation of energy resources. It will also focus on provision of more public transport options aiming at reduced use of private cars and improve lifestyle through clean and safe transportation. It will also work for provision of healthy environment within residential neighborhoods and places of public gatherings through increased afforestation and landscaping, which will greatly help in reducing temperature in cities.
