THE Bangladesh Forum in Qatar, in cooperation with the Bangladesh Embassy in Doha, will organise the ‘Bangladesh Festival 2019’ in Doha from March 19 to 25 with an array of cultural activities.
Mahbur Rahman from the Embassy of Bangladesh said it’s a great opportunity to introduce the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh to the people of Qatar by showcasing some of the country’s rich cultural traditions, art forms and food.
He said Qatar and Bangladesh have common positions on various international issues and there is bilateral cooperation and collaboration at many levels between the two countries.
“It’s important for us to support this event because we have more than 400,000 Bangladeshi nationals working in Qatar. It is necessary to make people familiar with the norms and culture of Bangladesh,” he noted.
The festival will be held in collaboration with the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) where most of the activities will be held, including the screening of a Bangladeshi film that sheds light on the social life of the country.
The festival will also include events showcasing the traditional foods and dishes of Bangladesh and an array of art and photo exhibitions portraying the beauty of Bangladesh.
Kishwar Hamlin, founder and member of the Bangladesh Forum in Qatar, said some of the activities, such as drawing competitions for different age groups, will be held at the Bangladesh School in Doha.
“It is such an honour and pride to have this very first Bangladesh festival in Qatar. We have never had such an event of this scale in the country before, and we look forward to getting people here to know more about our culture to bring our nations closer,” she added.
