Goma: At least 11 people died when a school was struck by lightning in the Democratic Republic of Congo, local authorities said Sunday. An electrical storm descended on the town of Kikwit in the country’s south-west late Friday, mayor Leonard Mutandu told dpa. There was no rain, but lightning struck a local school. Seven students and a teacher were killed, along with three people nearby, Mutandu added. “At first it killed three people near the school. A few minutes later, the second lightning struck inside a classroom. (dpa)
