Baladna Food Industries, Qatar’s largest producer of fresh dairy and beverages, is all set for major expansion to achieve self-sufficiency in milk products in the country.
After successfully launching the country’s first UHT (Long-Life milk) line, Baladna is preparing to start production of condensed milk in the country, a senior company official has said.
A first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, the locally-produced condensed milk will be available for sale in the Qatari market by the end of this year.
Talking to Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of the company’s Ghabga event in Doha recently, Baladna Senior Marketing Director Maher Eldaly said the company has made investments worth millions of dollars to procure state-of-the-art machines to produce condensed milk in the country.
Also known as evaporated milk, the official said, there is a huge demand for condensed milk in the country, especially among the large Asian expatriate communities.
“Currently, Qatar depends entirely on imports to meet the demand for condensed milk in the local market. It is mainly imported from Kuwait and Turkey. Like other milk products, our aim is to achieve 100 percent self-sufficiency in condensed milk segment as well,” the official said.
“We are in the process of importing machines for this purpose. All the machines will be set up at the factory soon and the production is expected to start by the end of this year.”
Our product will be even better than other similar products as it won’t be shipped from thousands of kilometres away from factories outside of Qatar. We are also working to ensure that the price of our condensed milk brand will be more competitive than others available in the market,” Eldaly said.
He also revealed that Baladna will be expanding to cheese segment in the next two months.
“We are entering different kinds of cheese segments. Currently, we are in the process of acquiring and setting up machines. We are expected to start production after summer,” the official said.

“We are also working on a large scale to expand the range of juices in different flavours. We already have juices in six flavours and we are going to add five more flavours by the end of this year,” the official said.
“We have lots of innovations in the pipeline. Cooking aides such as sour cream, fresh cream will also be produced at our factory soon,” Eldaly said.
With over 20,000 high-breed cows owned by Baladna, he said, the company is in a position to meet the demands for dairy products in the country.
“We have also started exporting some of our products and right now we are in negotiations with several Asian countries to export our products. In the next four-five months we will be exporting to countries that are well-known in the region,” the official said.
