JUST as President Donald Trump made his selfish political agenda paramount by pushing Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu to wrongly block entry to two left-wing congresswomen, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, Tlaib has now shown her true motive in refusing to accept an invitation to visit her grandmother on the West Bank that she had requested.
In the words of Israeli Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, “apparently her hate for Israel overcomes her love for her grandmother.” The international nonsense started when Trump, always eager to bait ‘Squad’ members Tlaib and Omar, got Netanyahu to bar the freshmen. The pair are no friends of Israel, and support the destructive boycott movement of the Jewish state, but they should have been welcomed nonetheless.
After Netanyahu caved to his buddy and foolishly closed the door, Tlaib wrote to Deri, saying she was putting aside politics: “I would like to request admittance to Israel in order to visit my relatives, and specifically my grandmother, who is in her 90s and lives in Beit Ur al-Fouqa. This could be my last opportunity to see her. I will respect any restrictions and will not promote boycotts against Israel during my visit.” The minister quickly said yes. And then the congresswoman quickly threw it back in his face and her grandmother’s face.
So much for Tlaib’s deep desire to see her relatives and to pick figs with her “sity,” Arabic for grandma.
Here’s what should happen: Tlaib should get on the plane to Israel and pick those figs with sity. And she should take Omar with her. And Netanyahu should welcome both of them and let them say whatever hateful things they want to say. And Trump should keep his mouth shut.
