Iqbal Hussain Chaudhry turned in an inspiring all-round display in his first match as a captain and steered Qatar to a splendid 19-run victory against Singapore in the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League Group A in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Tuesday.

In reply, Singapore were bowled out at 213 in 48.2 overs as Gayan Munaweera grabbed an impressive five for 39 and Chaudhry snapped four wickets for 50.
Qatar, Canada and hosts Malaysia are unbeaten after their first match and Canada lead the six-team table on their best net run-rate (NRR). Qatar are in the third spot after Malaysia, while Singapore, Denmark and Vanuatu are the teams to have suffered defeats.
Ibrahim, who smashed 63 off 92 balls with eight fours, ensured Qatar had a steady start. With Saqlain Arshad (21 with two sixes and a four) and Qalandar Khan (29 with a six and two fours), he put up 53 runs for the first wicket and 61 runs for the second wicket.
After a mini collapse which saw Qatar five down for 129, Chaudhry and Khurram Shahzad collected 66 runs and took the team closer to the 200-mark. Amjad Mahboob (three for 42), U Aryaman Sunil (two for 61) and Anantha Krishna (two for 30) were the main bowlers.
Qatar struck a blow off the very first ball in the Singapore chase as Munaweera had Arjun Mutreja caught by keeper Mohammed Rizlan. The bowler sent back the other opener Rohan Rangarajan as well after 32 runs. Surendra Chandramohan and Tim David helped Singapore recover through a 78-run stand, which was broken by Mohammed Nadeem. Chandramohan was caught by Mohammed Awais Malik for 67, which included 13 fours.
David and Manpreet Singh mustered 88 runs for the fourth wicket. And just Singapore appeared to be returning into the match, Chaudhry came up with a crucial breakthrough and sent back David for 75 with six fours.
