The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) on Thursday honoured President of the Qatar Olympic Committee HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al Thani for his contributions to the Olympic Movement.
The sixth edition of the annual awards ceremony took place at the Cultural Village – Katara during the 24th ANOC General Assembly. Acting President of ANOC Robin Mitchell and Secretary-General Gunilla Lindberg were also present on the occasion.
Sheikh Joaan was chosen for the award by an ANOC Jury comprising presidents of each Continental Association, representatives from the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and representatives of the ANOC Athletes’ Commission.
The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) was established in June 1979 during the Constitutive General Assembly in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The organisation’s purpose is to manage the general affairs of the National Olympic Committees, to give them their support, advice, cooperation and recommendations for their development.
