United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed has commended the pioneering role of Qatar in addressing the challenges of people with disabilities.
She thanked HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, founder the Qatar Social Work Foundation (QSWF), for her strenuous efforts in promoting education around the world and ensuring that no one left the school, also praising the role of the Shafallah Centre and the comprehensive services that it provides to people with mental health challenges. She said the stigma attached to persons with disabilities is increasing, and this stigma is associated with a misunderstanding of their rights and the value of the contributions they make to their societies. She said this situation cannot be approved, as it is contrary to the collective commitment of the UN to achieve human dignity and its obligations in light of the international law and against the organisation’s efforts to integrate persons with disabilities.
